Overstrand Evening WI and Rockstock came together during the afternoon of July 27th on Overstrand's Sports Field, to assist with the celebration of Norfolk Day. It was indeed, in spite of the grey skies, weeping fine drizzle at the outset, Norfolk 'n' Good. An eclectic mix of ages, dress code and eccentricity had gathered expectantly to sample what was on offer, and seemed content to sit, stand around in chattering knots, or even dance, should the spirit move them. Being offered the chance to sample the delightfully varied array of freshly baked buns, sponge slices, iced tray-baked squares and muffins handed round, was more than most could resist. Even the small, circular rounds topping many off, were rice paper, printed with their Overstrand Evening W.I. origin, so were quite edible. These culinary delights were free, putting the icing on the cake. Unsurprisingly, they were soon finding appreciative takers. Appropriately there were many rock cakes there for the taking, to the delight of all who weren't watching their weight or waist-lines. As Mary Poppins didn't quite say - Supercalorifictriffic, sounding quite precocious...... In all, an enjoyable local event with many happy participants.
Many thanks to Greg Bond who kindly took the photographs below.
